What is JavaScript and how can I enable it? top
JavaScript is the programming language our Internet Banking service is written in.

To be able to use Internet Banking you must have JavaScript enabled within your internet browser. It is enabled by default in most browsers.

What happens if I do not have JavaScript enabled?
You will not be able to open the Internet Banking window and nothing will happen when you click on the 'login link'.

I cannot open Internet Banking, how do I check JavaScript is enabled?
Please check our supported internet browsers page to find instructions for your specific browser.

What is 128-bit SSL Encryption and why is it important? top
Encryption is the conversion of data into a form, called a ciphertext, that cannot be understood by unauthorized people.

Clydesdale Bank's Internet Banking service requires that your browser supports a minimum of 128-bit SSL Encryption, which is the industry standard, to ensure that your personal data cannot be read by third parties while being transmitted across the Internet.

Some more modern internet browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Opera use 256-bit Encryption with our service.

Do I need a specific ISP to access your Internet Banking? top
No, you can access the Internet Banking Service through any Internet Service Provider.

Why can I access my account from my home PC but not from work? top
Most computers used in corporate organisations are set up with a server through which all communication passes and this is protected by a firewall. If you are at work and are unable to connect to our site it is likely that your company has a firewall. By contacting your system administrator you may be able to arrange access through the firewall.

What do these common error-messages mean? top

If you get the following messages, it may mean you have a modem/network problem and you should contact your ISP or LAN Administrator:

  • Cannot open site;
  • Cannot connect to server;
  • The website is unavailable - always check that the URL (or simply, the address of a website) you have entered is correct.

If you get the following messages, it may mean you have an operating system problem. You should close down all other windows programs running on the task bar and run a full virus scan on all files. If the messages continue you should contact your local PC technician:

  • Runtime error
  • This program has performed an illegal operation
