Executive profile: Iain Smith

Chief Financial Officer

Iain joined the Group in October 2003 as Head of Risk, responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the Group's regulatory compliance operations in Europe and being the Financial Services Authority Approved Person CF10 for the Group's regulated activities in Europe. He also covered the Head of Risk role in Wealth Management Europe.

In April 2004 Iain was seconded to MLC in Sydney to cover the General Manager, Risk role before returning to the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the UK in July 2004.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has an honours degree in Economics.  He qualified with Deloittes and then spent 21 years in banking with The Woolwich and then Barclays.  As well as holding various finance/risk/banking roles in Woolwich, he undertook periods managing arrears & recoveries, retail products, business development and integration. He also acted as CFO for the Group's estate agency business for two years and chaired certain subsidiary organisations including FirstPlus PLC, a secured lending business.
